Season 1 Launch Party
"In May of 2016, we held a launch party at Mick’s All American Pub in Mount Joy, PA and invited all of the Season 1 sponsors and guests to watch the very first public viewing of Focused on Success with Dave Romeo. Although I had seen the episode many times during the video editing, this is the first time I watched it along with an audience. I was thoroughly thrilled when they all burst into instantaneous applause at the end of the episode. It’s something I’ll never forget." -- Dave Romeo
How the show
was born...
In the summer of 2015, I received a call from Diane Dayton while I was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Diane has hosted the Behind the Lines television series for the past 18 years and I have been her guest on the show several times. Diane asked if she could meet me to discuss a project. I think it had something to do with television but I had no idea what she had in mind.
The last thing I expected was for her to offer me a television series that she would executive produce. At the time, I have been really presenting seminars and coaching clients for the past 17 years. My mind was like a goldfish in one of those little bowls that they have at carnivals and fairs. When Diane offered me the opportunity to do my own television series, it was like my mind went from being confined to one of those little goldfish bowls to being dumped in a 1000-gallon aquarium! My mind would not shut off thinking about all of the possibilities of telling stories about my customers on a worldwide stage. The idea that I could reach people through this medium and help entertain, enlighten, and enlighten them to achieve their dreams was one of the greatest turning point in my life.
Diane asked me to write a television treatment for pilot. Even though I’ve never done this before, writing has always come easy to me so it wasn’t that hard to do. Unfortunately, my vision of the show did not align with the budget for the show.
I explained that I’d never written a television script before but that I could learn. At the time I had just started writing a weekly blog and showed the production crew some samples. I said, “as you can see, I did not know how to write a blog until last month but here are 40 of them.” Once the production crew saw the content of my blogs, they immediately exclaimed, “this is what we should do on the show.”
Once I understood what they were looking for, I was able to rattle off all the episodes for Season 1 with little effort. The concept was to have four segments in a 30-minute time frame. The first segment would entertain people with amusing stories and lessons. The second segment would enlighten people with valuable strategies for success. The third segment would be an in-depth interview with my clients on the set sharing their underdog stories of success.
The fourth segment would be designed to inspire people to take action and go after their dreams. You always want to leave people on a high note. By the way, the entertain, enlighten, and inspire concept perfectly mirrors my approach to presenting seminars.

The High Concept
In Hollywood, when a new movie is being proposed, no money is allocated for the project until it is clearly understood what the high concept is. This is a very short explanation of the plot. The high concept for Focused on Success with Dave Romeo is entrepreneurial underdog success stories. In other words, I wanted to inspire people by telling stories of my coaching clients who overcome the odds and become successful. Once I could explain the high concept to potential sponsors, it made it much easier to get them on board.
